Bio
Aio has lived a lot of lives…and is loving their current one most of all. Professional skier and chef; undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at CU Boulder with an emphasis on food systems and energy; graduate degree in Environmental Policy at DU with an emphasis in active transportation; entrepreneur; and artist.
Their art experience begins at a young age with classes in ceramics, photography, wood shop, and an apprenticeship to a cabinetmaker. The many distractions of life kept them busy for a while after that but they returned wholeheartedly in 2017 when they found artistic inspiration after some major shifts. It began with ink on paper…fluid visualization…and continues to deepen in multiple disciplines with ceramics currently at the forefront.
Aio was born in Denver, Colorado and was never too far away from a trailhead. An avid hiker and backpacker, extensive time in the North American wilderness informs all of their work from materials to subject matter and technique. Artists who inspire through their work include Etsuko Ichikawa, Barbara Hepworth, Theaster Gates, and anyone who seeks depth through the wisdom that comes with true craftsmanship.
